To All Northern Arapaho Tribal Members;

The Tribal Ceremonial Elders have decided that Sundance will be held as originally scheduled. The Tribal Ceremonial Elders have requested, however, that we establish and enforce certain rules to try to protect everyone from COVID-19. As such, I would like to clarify a few of the Sundance rules that have already been announced.

First, you do not have to be tested to go on the Sundance grounds.

Second, if you are directly participating in Sundance, you must be tested. Meaning, if you fall into one of the following categories, you must be tested:

  • Dancers
  • Grandfathers
  • Sponsors
  • Runners
  • Singers
  • Drum Groups
  • Painters
  • Cooks for the Dancers and Grandfathers

The Tribal Ceremonial Elders have established these rules in collaboration with the Northern Arapaho Business Council and the Wind River Family & Community Health Care Clinic. If you intend to directly participate in the Sundance and you are not tested, you will not be able to participate.

There are only two more days to get tested - Wednesday, July 1, and Thursday, July 2. You can get tested on Monday, but you run the risk of not receiving your results in time for Sundance. As a reminder, you may get tested at the following locations:

Clinic Testing Days and Times

Arapaho Clinic

Monday-Friday*
9:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Ethete Clinic

Monday-Thursday
9:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Friday*
9:00 AM - 2:00 PM

*The Clinics will be closed on Friday, July 3, in observance of the 4th of July holiday.

Please remember, everyone must wear a mask on the Sundance grounds, except while eating and if you are a dancer. There will be masks available. If you do not abide by this rule, you will be asked to leave. These precautions are in place to ensure that everyone remains protected from COVID-19. Additionally, please refer to our previous posts for other rules, including no alcohol, drugs, fireworks, and vendors.

We are still discussing the process for screening and will update everyone later this week.
